2115: The final cut comes at +4 so that means the likes of Colin Montgomerie and Paul Lawrie will miss the weekend.
2040: Edberg's meltdown is complete as another shot goes on 18 - that is six over the final four holes and he is +3 for the championship. He does make the cut though and whether all those players at +5 make it into the weekend is going right down to the wire.
2025: It is a real shame as Edberg now compounds his woes late in the day with a double bogey on 17 - he is now +2 overall. That is a whopping five shots gone in three holes.
2018: Like Woods, McGinley deserves plenty of credit for hanging onto his score. He started poorly but kept his concentration well to finish with four pars for a 75 and a level par total at halfway. There look to be four players with the fate of the cut mark in their hands.
2012: It is a slippery slope over the closing holes and Edberg lets another stroke go at the par three 16th, so he is back to level par for the championship.
1945: A lot of the good work from Edberg is undone on the 15th when he takes double bogey to slip back to -1 overall. He needs to keep his head screwed on now and try and make it to the clubhouse. The cut still hovers precariously between +4 and +5.
1930: Monty brings the curtain down on his round with a par down the last. It's a 74 and he now sits on +5 and will just have to hope that a few of the later finishers drop some shots so that he survives the cut. At the moment he's predicted to miss it, but there's still a bit of golf to be played.
1928: Edberg's charge continues with a birdie at the par-five 14th. The Swede is now four-under for his round and up into a share of third on -3, tremendous stuff from the head-banded one.
1918: A par-four down the last and Mike Weir is home with a best-of-the-day 68 - just 32 shots on the inward nine, some feat. A share of third and the Canadian has played himself right into contention.
1908: Monty makes par at 17 and remains +5. Henry's has to content himself with a birdie at 14, but the American is now in the red at -1.
1903: Woods sees his putt drift past on the low side and has to content himself with a 74. Rose taps home for a 70 to end the day +3, that's a decent fightback from the Englishman. However, it's not such good news for 1999 champion Lawrie who closes with a double-bogey six after driving into the burn. Like Tiger he cards a 74, but it drops him to +5 and he faces an anxious wait to see if he's done enough to make the cut.
1900: Tiger finds sand with his second to 18 and, despite a good-looking lie in the greenside bunker, leaves himself ten or twelve feet for a closing par. It's been a real struggle today.
1859: McGinley is hanging tough with pars at 12 and 13, but at 14 it's playing partner JJ Henry who steals the limelight with a delicious wood from the fairway which ends up leaving him around ten feet for eagle.
1855: Adam Scott narrowly misses out on what would have been a very rare birdie on 18. The Australian taps home for par to complete a round of 70 and he's not too far away now on +1.
1851: Monty makes a clutch putt for par after a major misjudement at the short 16th saw his tee-shot finish a good 30-40 yards from the flag.
1847: Mark Foster is one of the latest starters today, but he's putting together some round having reached the turn in just 32 shots - that's -4. He spoils his good work by giving one back at ten, but the Englishman is still only +2 and will be very hopeful of making the cut.
1844: Weir is putting together a back-nine charge and a well-judged birdie putt on sixteen drops in to move the Canadian up into a share of third on -3.
1841: Monty's putter is coming good at the right time as he smoothly rolls in for what could be a crucial par. He still needs to find a shot over one of the closing three.
1836: As always Tiger has refused to throw in the towel and a cracking long iron at 17 gives him a real chance to get back in the red. His sheer will-power and resilience is a lesson to everyone.
1833: Monty finds the centre of the 15th green but that's his third shot and if he doesn't hole the par-putt his chances look bleak.
1829: American amateur Drew Weaver is home with a 72 - that's a really fine effort today, but at +6 he now looks highly-unlikely to make the cut meaning that Rory McIlroy can get ready to celebrate. The Silver Medal for top amateur looks to be his.
1825: Beem sinks his birdie putt at 11, while up ahead on 18 Paul Casey finishes with a bogey for a round of 73. He's +3 at the halfway stage.
1821: Mike Weir also makes a birdie at 14 and he's crept rather unnoticed to -2.
1819: Monty, needing a birdie or two if he's going to be here for the weekend, very nearly comes up with an eagle. A wonderful little chip from off the green at 14 runs on and hits the flag flush in the face. Rather than celebrate, Monty stares the ball down, seemingly incredulous that it has refused to drop. He's back to +5 and could do with another one to be safe.
1815: McGinley is refusing to be bowed despite a difficult round to date and a birdie three at 11 has him back in red numbers at -1.
1812: Tiger continues to battle away and heads off 15 with his par. Beem's progress is interrupted by a double-bogey at ten after he took a trip into the burn, but a fine iron to 11 gives the burly American a chance to get one back straight away.
1807: Goosen makes bogey at 18 to finish with a 71. That's a fair effort from the South African who holed plenty of putts today, he's -1 overall.
1805: Edberg birdies nine to reach the turn in just 33 shots, he's -2 now. Fellow Swede Fredrik Andersson Hed is also going along nicely, he's two-under for the day and -1 for the championship.
1802: Michael Campbell started the day with real hopes of challenging for the halfway lead, but a 78 means he finishes at +4 - just good enough to survive the cut.
1801: Darren Clarke finishes up at 18 but will not be staying on for the weekend. A terrible bogey-bogey-bogey-par-double bogey finish sees five shots escape him over the closing five holes and he ends up at +6.
1759: Tiger is out with the driver at 15, but again comes up with a huge slice. He's actually not got a bad lie, but that's only because he's on the fourth fairway!
1758: McGinley makes bogey at ten and is no longer under-par. Jacquelin collects a par at 18 and is in with a 69 - fine effort.
1755: Tiger claws one back at 14 and returns to level-par, while Rose also makes birdie and very nearly eagle. Monty is heading in the other direction and falls back to +5 as another par-putt sneaks past the hole. The Scot is now +5 and, as things stand, won't be here for the weekend.
1752: Cink's relatively serene progress comes to an abrupt halt with a scruffy double-bogey at 12. The American drops back to -1.
1748: American Chris DiMarco - last year's runner-up - is moving through the field. He's two-under for the day after four birdies and two bogeys and not too far off the pace at +1.
1745: Goosen holes a monster on 17 to move himself back to -2. That's a real bonus for the South African.
1743: Choi finishes up with a bogey on 18, that's a second successive 69 for the Korean and he'll start his third round just two behind leader Sergio Garcia on -4.
1740: Howell finishes bogey-bogey but will be here for the weekend as his 74 gives him a +4 total of 146.
1735: Yesterday Raphael Jacquelin was on course for a 69 until he finished bogey-par-quadruple bogey. Today, the Frenchman is two-under for his round going down 18. He's back to +1 and a par down the last will make him only the third man to break 70.
1731: American Rich Beem is putting together an impressive round. Birdies at one and six have him two-under for the day and -3 overall. It very nearly gets even better, but his birdie putt at eight just slides by.
1727: Perched on the edge of the burn and gripping well down the shaft, Choi manages to get his ball back on the fairway and will now be focusing on making no worse than bogey at 18.
1726: Pampling misses from seven or eight feet on 18 to finish bogey-bogey. That's a 72 for the Australian, but he's still in decent shape at level-par for the tournament.
1724: Rose's birdie attempt lips out, he remains +2.
1722: Choi finds real trouble on 18 and his drive ends just inches from the burn. We could end up with the Korean doing a Van de Velde to move it on with his second.
1719: Rose is playing some splendid stuff and a raking 270-yard wood leaves him 20-25 feet for birdie at the difficult 12th. That effort is eclipsed in spectacular style by playing partner Paul Lawrie whose approach comes to rest barely 18 inches from the hole. That's a tap-in for the Scot and would see him back to +3.
1716: Goosen could not get up and down after finding sand at 13 and then squanders another at the 15th to drop back to -1.
1715: A delicate putt from off the green from Choi pulls up two or three feet short, but should be good enough for a par the way he's been holing out. Brier gets his shot back with a birdie four at six.
1712: Former Masters champion Mike Weir rolls home a teasing 20-footer on ten to move into the red numbers for both his round and championship.
1709: After four pars, Brier has dropped his first shot of the at five and slips to -2.
1706: A quick word for American Charley Hoffman. The American - who always stands out on the course with his mane of long, blonde hair - has become only the second man today to break 70 and that despite a bogey-double bogey finish. He matches the 69 of Niclas Fasth earlier in the day and now, like the Swede, sits at +2 for the championship.
1704: Choi's putt at 16 grazes the edge of the hole but stays out. He remains -5 and will be looking for solid finish to what has been an immaculate round thus far.
1702: After finding sand from the tee at six, McGinley can do no better than a bogey - that will be a disappointment, there's been birdies aplenty there this week. Monty is now cutting a dejected figure having seen another one slip away at nine following a lacklustre putt. He's now +4 and faces a fight to make the cut.
1659: Michael Campbell is undergoing something of a revival. The New Zealander was +6 for his round today after 12 holes, but birdies at 13 and 14 have hauled him back to +1 for the championship.
1657: Choi is running hot and getting the breaks. His tee-shot at the short 16th drifts slightly left, but takes a very friendly kick of a bank and wanders on to the green leaving the Korean with a very real chance of claiming a share of the lead.
1655: Thomas Bjorn drops the second shot of his round at 13. The Dane has yet to make a birdie today, but is still in the mix at +1.
1652: Tiger gets a very fortunate break at ten. His second seems to be headed for the burn way right of the green, butcomes down in a small cluster of trees and stays on dry ground. He makes the subsequent chip look easy and escapes with a far-from regulation par.
1650: Pampling made bogey at the short 13th, but bounces back with a birdie at 14 and is straight back to -2.
1647: Pelle Edberg has been in excellent form on the European Tour recently and the Swede is in amongst things here having come up with back-to-back bogeys at three and four. He's now -1 for the tournament.
1644: Paul Casey is making steady progress and is one-over today through 11, +2 for the championship. David Howell is in exactly the same predicament, although he has now played 15 holes today.
1642: Choi finds the centre of the cup with his putt at 15 and is now just one back of Garcia at -5.
1640: Tiger escapes with par at nine, but a his drive at ten is a bit of a wild slash and leaks way right and into more trouble.
1638: Cink fires in a lovely seven-iron to set up a very presentable birdie chance at eight. Choi continues to dazzle and a cracking three-wood skips on to the 15th green leaving him 20 feet for birdie.
1634: Par for McGinley at five, he seems to have recovered his composure. A lovely little chip from Rose at nine all but assures his par, Tiger still has work to do.
1631: Monty loses his rag with the galleries as they wander across his eye-line as he sizes up a birdie putt at seven. When he's finally ready and over it once more he watches as it agonisingly creeps past on the low side.
1627: Choi makes birdie number four of his round to move into second place on his own at -4. The Korean has been in fabulous form recently in America and has transferred it seamlessly to links golf.
1624: Goosen holes a lengthy putt on 12 to escape with a par and keep his momentum going.
1620: Rose rolls home from 15 feet for a lovely birdie two at eight, he's making good progress and is back to +2. Tiger fails to get up and down as his par putt somehow stays above ground - it's another one gone and he's now over-par for the championship.
1617: Monty makes a second successive bogey at the par-five sixth. The smile has gone and the signs aren't good, he's back to +3.
1614: McGinley strokes home for a much-needed birdie at four to get a shot back, he's -2. Adam Scott is making a bit of move, the Australian is two-under through eight holes today and back to level-par.
1611: Having made par at seven, Tiger finds the greenside bunker at the short eighth. The defending champion let's out an exasperated shout, things are just not going his way.
1609: Fabulous iron from the rough on the fourth from McGinley, he'll have ten feet for birdie - would be a real fillip if you could slot that one.
1606: Markus Brier is underway with two pars. Poulter makes it back-to-back birdies at five and six, climbing to +1 in the process. Good start from the Englishman.
1602: Stricker reacts to the disappointment of his double-bogey at ten with a birdie at 11 and is -2. McGinley three-putts at the third and suddenly finds himself all the way back at -1.
1558: Goosen joins the ever-expanding group on -3 courtesy of a fine birdie putt at the tenth. It's a dropped shot for Monty at five, though, and he's back to +2.
1553: Tiger two-putts for par, while Rose makes birdie to lift himself back up to +3. That's a good response after his bogey at the last.
1549: Stewart Cink bogeyed three, but a birdie at four - his second of the day - has him up into the chasing pack on -3.
1547: A well-controlled long iron by Rose sets up an eagle chance atsix, but Tiger finds yet more trouble. After running into long rough off the tee, he bullies an iron up to the green but sees his ball plug in the bunker protecting the putting surface. He can only splash out a few feet and now it's only an outside chance of birdie. While he's hitting some wayward shots, it must be said he's not having the best of luck.
1544: McGinley sees his long birdie attempt on the second green lip out, while Monty holes out well at four for a par. He seems to be a lot happier with his blade today.
1542: Fantastic long-iron from Poulter at five. It almost finds its way into the hole for an eagle, but it's a tap-in birdie that will take him up to +2.
1540: A good read from Choi on the 11th green and the Korean is under-par for his round and up into a share of second on -3.
1537: Tiger can't avoid dropping another one at five and playing partner Rose also makes bogey.
1534: Another bogey for Campbell at nine and he reaches the turn in 39. The 2005 US Open champion will hope to rediscover some form on the way home.
1529: A three-putt on the first for McGinley and certainly not the start he would have wanted. He's now -3, three shots back of Garcia.
1527: A fine up and down from Forsyth at 18 and he's in for a 71. Good effort from the Scot, he's stands at 141 along with the likes of Westwood and Cabrera.
1524: Tiger is in all sorts of trouble on the fifth. A wayward drive out to the right is lucky to find a decent lie, but he produces another big hook with his second and it disappears into thick rough. There's been some very uncharacteristic shotd from the world number one thus far.
1518: Goosen's tee-shot on the par three eighth plunges into a greenside bunker as Rose coaxes home his par putt on the fourth to stay at +3.
1517: Rose did not hit his Sunday best into the fourth green and his first putt still leaves him a good five feet for par. Woods makes a par after his birdie putt is always missing to the left.
1515: Big day for Paul McGinley as he remains Garcia's nearest pursuer at the moment. No problems with his opening tee-shot, which just trickles into the rough.
1513: Stricker's chances are dented with a double bogey at the 10th. Michael Campbell misses a birdie chance on eight but taps in for par to stay one under and a couple over for the day.
1512: Goosen makes it successive birdies at the seventh and he is right in the mix at -2 all of a sudden.
1510: Woods finds the fourth green and has 18 feet left for a birdie. Monty saves par nicely on the second and that is sure to keep his spirits up.
1508: Not a great first putt from Monty on two and he has a tester left for his par. Stewart Cink has got to three under after a birdie on the first and he pars the second.
1506: Handy kick from the left rough for Tiger on the fourth and he is just off the fairway.
1505: Fine shot from Monty on the second to find the green a tricky lie in the rough. Weekley round in 72 for a two under total and in good shape for the weekend.
1503: Poor golf from Lawrie as he three-putts the third. Tiger makes his par putt on the same green.
1502: Rose misses his birdie on the third by a fraction as Retief Goosen makes a birdie on the sixth to get under par for the championship.
1501: Lawrie races his birdie putt on the third a good six feet by.
1500: Woods goes with the putter and rolls it up to within two feet of the hole.
1459: Woods gets up to the third green and finds that his ball has rolled down a slope and now leaves him with a much moreawkward shot.
1457: Monty will have an awkward second shot on the second as his ball ends up perched precariously by a fairway bunker in the rough.
1456: Woods starts to resume normal service and fires a cracking second to the third green and will have another good look at a birdie.
1452: Massive cheer around the first green as Monty successfully makes his birdie. He is straight back to +1 for the championship.
1451: David Howell gets to one under for the day and level for the championship with a birdie on the eighth. Choi misses a two-foot par putt on the same hole and is back to -2 overall.
1450: Woods goes with the iron from the third tee and finds the right edge of the fairway.
1448: Lawrie's putt gets a beautiful roll and disappears for a birdie three. Woods matches that and gets back one of the shots he blew at the first.
1447: Monty's second to the opening hole is a cracker and comes to rest six feet from the pin.
1446: Rose goes first on the second green and misses so settles for a par four.
1445: Lawrie completes the trio on the second hole to find the putting surface.
1444: Colin Montgomerie fires his opening tee-shot down the fairway and it rolls towards the left edge but perfectly safe. Ian Poulter up ahead on the green just misses for a birdie.
1442: Choi has a good chance on the eighth for a birdie as his tee shot ends up 18 feet from the pin. Rose on the second hits his approach right on line but it finishes around 20 feet short of the flag.
1441: Woods fires his second into the second green and ball ends up five feet from the pin.
1439: Pampling makes a good save on eight for par while Choi misses his birdie attempt on the seventh.
1437: Woods gathers himself on the second tee and finds the left edge of the fairway with his drive.
1435: Weekley misses his par putt on the 16th. He finishes out for a bogey and is now back to minus two.
1434: Rose holes a belter from 25 feet for a birdie on the first and he is back to +3 overall immediately. Lawrie makes par.
1432: It is two putts for Woods on the first and he is straight back to level par after that six.
1431: Lawrie has a tap-in for par at the first but chooses to mark as Woods stalks his lengthy putt for a five.
1430: Steve Stricker makes it birdies at five, six and seven to get to three under for the championship.
1429: Paul Lawrie recovers well from a fairway bunker at the first and finds the putting surface via a grassy mound by the green.
1427: Justin Rose finds the first green with his second and Woods does the same with his fourth stroke.
1421: A deft chip leaves Garcia eight feet for par on 18. As he has done all day, the Spaniard holes out superbly to seal a solid 71 and remains two clear on -6.
1420: Tiger strides to the first tee amid the usual fanfare that follows his every move. But the world number one then stuns everyone by hooking his iron way left and out of bounds into the burn. A rueful grin and Tiger is forced to reload. His second finds the first cut down the right, but that is the last thing he'll have wanted or expected.
1415: Pampling responds to his setback with a birdie at the sixth and is back at -2. Goosen drops one at four and is -1.
1411: After a booming drive on 18, Garcia selects just a five-iron for his second. That's some hitting considering it's 500 yards straight back into a wind that is getting steadily stronger. In the event he leaves it short and left and has a tricky up and down for par and a roundof 71.
1407: Forsyth strokes home for birdie on 13 and is back in the red figures at -1.
1404: Encouraging start for Paul Casey. The Englishman has opened with a birdie three down the first and is back to level-par.
1401: Garcia shows fine judgement on 17 and heads to the 18th tee with a par, but Campbell has now started par-bogey-bogey to drop back to -1.
1358: Weekley continues to hold his round together well, he's managed ten pars and two birdies since dropping his only shot of the day at the second and remains only one back of Garcia on -4.
1355: Pampling's good work is undone by a double-bogey at five after a trip to the sand. On 17 Garcia has left himself a monster putt for birdie, he'd snap your hand off for two from there.
1352: After a wonderful iron into the second, Retief Goosen rolls home for an early birdie to lift himself up to -2.
1350: It's a very scruffy and potentially damaging double-bogey six finish for Mickelson. That takes the American to +6 and it's unlikley he's going to be around for the weekend. Playing partner Westwood holes an important putt to escape with a bogey and is well-placed at -1 after a highly-respectable 70.
1348: Garcia is a little timid with his birdie attempt and leaves 16 with a par.
1345: Michael Campbell made his par down the first, but a bogey five at two has dropped the New Zealander back to -2. Clarke has opened with two pars.
1340: Wonderful tee-shot at the short 16th from Garcia. Pin-high, he'll have ten feet across the green for birdie.
1338: Westwood's second to the 18th ends up just under the grandstand on the right but not in too bad a spot. He's still got it all on to make par from there. Mickelson seems certain to drop another as he found more trouble of the tee.
1335: Garcia shows great character to hole out on 15. He's making plenty of clutch putts this week, that's usually a weakness for the Spaniard.
1334: Choi gives one back at three, while Dougherty is home with a 74 to stand +3 for the championship.
1332: Garcia has erred very much on the safe side with his putting today, but at 15 he races his birdie putt some six or seven feet past and now faces a real tester for par.
1329: Rod Pampling has made back-to-back birdies at two and three to surge up to -3.
1326: Mickelson continues to toil and having found another awkward spot off the green at 17 could well be facing up to another bogey. He's currently +4 and can't afford many more now.
1323: It's a double-bogey six for Vijay at 18 and not the finish he would have wanted after making up so much ground. It's still a 71, but the big Fijian will be kicking himself as he stands at +1 for the tournament.
1320: KJ Choi was the early pace-setter yesterday and the Korean has started in fine style today with a birdie three down the first.
1318: Garcia makes his birdie at 14 and once again leads by two on -6.
1315: Sergio's second to 14 comes up short out of the rough, but a decent putt from off the green leaves him five foot for birdie. Vijay sends his second out of bounds on 18 and looks likely to drop a couple at least.
1309: Jimenez's birdie putt just tails off to the left and he finishes with a 70, but that's the clubhouse lead on -3. Partner McIlroy taps in for a closing par and a round off 76, he's +2. That should be comfortably good enough to make the cut and also good enough to win the silver medal for top amateur. Stenson misses a short one for par and, finishing on +5, might not be here for the weekend.
1308: Michael Campbell and DarrenClarke get underway and both open with cracking straight drives down the first.
1307: Sergio gets a good break on 14 as a wayward drive somehow avoids the bunker and bushes down the left and finds a decent lie.
1304: Another spectacular shot from Jimenez presents him with a rare birdie chance on 18. The Spaniard thrashed a three-wood over the burn and will have ten foot for what would be a splendid round of 69.
1300: Disappointing finish for Furyk as he can do no better than a bogey-five at 18. He has to settle for a second successive 70, but that's no mean score today and he claims the clubhouse lead on -2.
1257: Weekley is within a shot of the lead after a solid putt for birdie drops in on ten. Maybe not one of the more fashionable names, but the American is looking very solid.
1254: McIlroy falls back to +2 after failing to get up and down from the sand at 17. The youngster needs a good finish to ensure all his hard work from yesterday is not in vein.
1249: Having laid up, Harrington leaves himself a 12-footer for par. It fails to drop and the Irishman then contrives to miss his return for bogey. It's a costly double-bogey six for Harry and he drops back to level-par after a 73.
1245: From holding things together nicely, Westwood has now catapulted himself amongst the leaders with a superb eagle three at 14. Two fine strikes left the man from Worksop a ten-foot putt and he judged it perfection to climb to -2.
1242: Furyk's birdie putt at 17 just drifts past on the low-side and he remains two off the pace. A poor drive from Harrington means he faces a battle to make par down the last.
1238: Garcia leaves himself 12-15 feet for par on 11 but cannot sink the putt and drops one at a hole he really wouldn't have expected to. He's back to -5.
1237: Westwood is holding things together nicely on level-par. Forsyth's second birdie of the day at six moves him up to -2.
1234: Another bogey for Vijay at 15 and he's -1. McIlroy has rallied in good style and having played his last four holes in -1 remains well-placed to make the cut. You could have got 5/1 on that happening before the tournament started.
1231: Garcia finds the sand off the tee on 11 and has plenty to do to make par from there. A wonderful long iron from Cabrera sets up a closing birdie for the Argentine - his first of the day. It's a 73 for the US Open champion, but he's still in contention at -1.
1227: Simply stunning tee-shot from Jimenez at 16 nearly produces the first hole-in-one of the week. The Spaniard's two-iron pitched some way short of the green, but ran on before coming to rest barely six inches from the hole. Quite superb, he'll join the posse on -3.
1225: Fine iron from Harrington sets up a birdie chance at 17, while Furyk gets up and down from a grassy mound off the green at 16 to remain -3.
1223: Vijay finishes up on 14 for his birdie, while Garcia adds another par to his steady round at ten. Mickelson's day is getting progressively worse and the world number two now finds himself +3 after bogeying 12 following a trip to the sand.
1219: Donald taps home on 18 to complete a hugely disappointing round of 76. He's +4 and faces an anxious wait to see if he's staying on.
1217: Vijay produces a stunning pitch from deep rough at 14 to leave himself no more than two feet for a birdie. The Fijian dropped his first shot of the day at the short 13th, but that would take him straight back to -2.
1214: Sergio seems to have put the emphasis on control today and having reached the turn in 36 after pars at seven, eight and nine, finds the heartof the green at ten to leave another half-chance for birdie.
1210: Harrington leaves himself one scramble too many and drops a shot at 15. Weekley collects a birdie at the par-five sixth and moves past the Irishman and up to -3. Furyk's birdie-putt at 15 comes up just short and he stays level with his compatriot.
1206: It's another dropped shot for Donald at 16 and back at +4 his hopes of surviving the cut are not looking too bright.
1204: Daly finishes with a decent par, but it's a 76 for the 'Wild Thing' and a +8 total of 150.
1201: A nicely-judged putt down the slope at 14 sets up a birdie for Jimenez that sees him to -2. Playing partner Stenson also makes a four to move back to +3 and McIlroy makes it a full-house with his second birdie of the day to climb back to level-par.
1156: Els has finished for the day and is back in the clubhouse with a 70. That takes him back to level-par for the championship, but not quite the move he would have hoped for when he teed off this morning.
1151: Vijay is still progressing nicely, he's on a run of five consecutive pars and has yet to drop a shot today. The Fijian remains +2.
1146: After battling his way back into something like contention Donald has shot himself in the foot again. He's made a double-bogey six at 15 and is back to +3 - that's a hammer-blow for the Englishman.
1143: Masters champion Zach Johnson is not enjoying his week in Scotland and, three-over today, has slumped to +5 for the championship. That's still a good sight better than one-time leader John Daly who now finds himself +9.
1141: Another good up-and-down from Harrington, but this time it's for birdie at 14 and the Irishman climbs up to -3, level with Furyk.
1139: Sandy Lyle dropped three shots over his closing four holes for a second consecutive 73.
1138: Fasth has the wind taken out of his sails with an untimely double-bogey at twelve. That drops the Swede back to +2.
1135: Garcia's birdie putt at seven comes up a foor or so short so he stays at -6. Americans Jerry Kelly and Mark Calcavecchia are both in with rounds of 70 and sit at +2 for the championship.
1131: Westwood follows his birdie at eight with bogey at nine and hits the turn in 36.
1126: Profitable few minutes for Garcia as Furyk sees his par-putt at 12 drift off course and the gap at the top of the leaderboard is back to three.
1124: Donald's revival continues. He picks up another at the par-five 14th and is back to +1.
1121: McIlroy's round is beginning to look a little scruffy as another shortish putt slides by on 11. He's now +4 today and +1 overall - the amateur could just do with a couple of pars to get himself back on track.
1119: Garcia produces a piece of magic from the bunker to leave a tap-in birdie. He's back to level-par for his round and two strokes clear on -6.
1116: Westwood rolls home a ten-footer for birdie at eight and climbs into the red at -1. Scot Alastair Forsyth has crept quietly into contention, after a 70 yesterday he has birdied the second today and is now -2.
1113: Garcia finds the bunker at the back of the sixth green after two huge strikes but will be confident of getting up and down for a birdie to extend his lead. Harrington continues to plug away steadily and remains -2 after a par at 12.
1111: Mickelson bogeys seven and drops back to +2. The world number two really has not got going so far this week.
1110: American Aaron Oberholser is playing some impressive golf today. Two birdies and seven pars have got him to the turn in 34 and back up to level-paron the leaderboard. Meanwhile, McIlroy steadies the ship with a par at ten.
1107: Furyk eases in his birdie putt at 11 and is -4 once again.
1106: Donald is trying his hardest to ensure he is here for the weekend. Birdies at 11 and 12 have lifted him up to +2, but the Englishman really will be disappointed with his efforts today.
1104: Fasth is back amongst the birdies at ten and back to level-par. The Swede - top European at last month's US Open - really does seem determined to force his way back into contention.
1102: Garcia, who had nipped off for a 'comfort break', keeps his concentration in tact and strokes home an important par putt at five to stay -5.
1100: Furyk gives himself every chance of reclaiming that dropped shot at 11 as a pinpoint iron bites and sits down six feet from the hole.
1057: Romero drops a shot at 17, but a par down the last completes a fine round of 70 and he's in the clubhouse on -1. Not a bad place to be.
1055: Mickelson bucks the trend with a birdie at six to haul himself back to +1 for the round and championship. Partner Westwood does likewise, he's level-par.
1052: The ninth proves costly for McIlroy who leaves with a double-bogey having found the water hazard with his second, he's back to level-par. Partner Jimenez also drops a shot to slide to -2. Up ahead Furyk makes bogey at ten but will be somewhat relieved having seen his second narrowly avoid a watery grave, the American is -3. Everybody seems to be moving backwards at present.
1048: A five at the last and Broadhurst is home with a second successive 71. He sets the early target in the clubhouse on 142.
1045: Harrington drops one at ten, while Weekley bogeys two. They are both back to -2.
1042: Garcia's lead is down to one shot as he misses a short one for par at the fourth. Vijay makes it three birdies on the spin and is now -2.
1039: Stenson takes a triple-bogey six at eight and falls way back to +4. Els drops his first shot of the day at 13 and is now level-par, while Fasth misses a three-footer for par at nine and is +1. That's still a fine front nine from teh Swede who hits the turn in 33.
1035: Vijay Singh has made a fast start to his round. Birdies at five and six mean he is back in the red at -1.
1032: McIlroy rescues par at eight with a lovely bunker shot. Jimenez's birdie putt just wanders off line at the last minute and he too leaves with a par
1029: Having bogeyed seven, Stenson has imploded on eight. His first tee-shot to the par-three sails out of bounds left on the wind and, having reloaded, he leaks his second attempt way right into the galleries. The frustrated Swede takes a chunk out of the tee-marker before he trudges off to try and rescue a very problematic situation.
1026: Garcia makes it three successive pars to start with another confident-looking putt. A fine tee-shot from Jimenez at the short eighth gives the Spaniard and an excellent chance to join Furyk at -4.
1023: Cabrera leaves ten with a par. That doesn't sound great, but having very nearly ended in the burn with his second and left a 12-footer for par the Argentine did exceptionally well and remains -1.
1022: American Boo Weekley is off and underway with a par down the first. He's -3 after a 68 yesterday.
1020: Romero reignites his charge with a superb eagle three at 14. A double-bogey at nine and bogey at 12 had slowed the Argentine, but he's now back to -2 for both the day and championship.
1017: Donald lets another slip away at ten and is now +4. He's in real danger of missing the cut now.
1013: Furyk rolls home from ten feet with the minimum of fuss for birdie on seven and is now just two back of leader Garcia on -4. The American goes about his business so quietly but is always there or thereabouts.
1012: Westwood bogeys three after taking three from the front of the green and joins playing partner Mickelson on +1. Dougherty is also there after a birdie at four.
1010: McIlroy strode on to the sixth green with a chance of an eagle, but after three rather tentaive putts has to settle for par five.
1006: Sandy Lyle is enjoying a decent round. The 1985 champion is one-under through 14 today and only +1 for the championship.
1003: Els birdies 11 and is in the red numbers now at -1. John Daly, leader yesterday on -5 for a very brief spell, is three-over through 11 holes today and well off the pace at +6.
0959: Harrington picks up his first shot of the at seven and is also now sitting very pretty at -3.
0956: Fasth's eagle putt at six steams up to the hole and lips out. A wry smile from the Swede knows that's not a bad result given how quickly it was going and it's going to be his fourth birdie of the day. He's back to level-par. Playing partner Furyk also makes birdie and he's now -3, the American won't be far away come Sunday night.
0951: Having found a very awkward spot on two, Mickelson - after what seems like an age of consultation with officials - takes a drop under penalty. On a steep downslope, in the end he has to place his ball and then receives a lucky break as it wanders down towards the hole under its own steam to make his chip considerably easier. He puts it to within two feet and will leave with a bogey.
0949: Fasth really is on the move. He makes birdie number three of the morning at five and is now +1.
0945: McIlroy drops another at five after finding rough to the right of the green with his second and is back to -2. Harrington makes his par at six.
0940: Garcia produces undoubtedly the shot of the championship to date. Having sent his second at the first some twenty yards to the right of the flag into some very uninviting thick rough, the Spaniard conjures a chip that lands just off the green and rolls on and to within about 18 inches of the hole. That was reminiscent of Ballesteros in his pomp.
0938: Stenson birdies four to move back to level-par. Harrington finds a horrible spot in the face of the greenside bunker at six and is unlikely to leave the par-five with anything better than a par.
0936: Broadhurst falls down the leaderboard as quickly as he climbed it with three consecutive bogeys taking him back to level-par for the day and tournament.
0932: Overnight leader Sergio Garcia is off and underway and finds the first cut of rough down the left-side of the first fairway.
0930: Miguel Angel Jimenez makes a fine birdie at four and climbs to -3. He's joined by the irrepressible McIlroy who matches his playing partner with a three to join him at -3.
0927: Luke Donald would have started the day with very high hopes, especially when an early birdie took him to -2. However, having double-bogeyed three he has now contrived to take a triple-bogey eight at six to drop back to +3 for the championship. Plenty of work to do now.
0925: Fine up and down from the sand at five gives Harrington a fifth straight par of the morning. Hansen leaks another one at nine and is back to level-par, while McIlroy produces yet another stunning iron to set up another birdie chance at four.
0922: Westwood and Mickelson kick-off with confident pars. Fasth is making something of a move with another birdie atfour, he's now +2.
0920: Els misses out on birdie and has to content himself with a seventh par of the day, while just before him Hansen dropped his first shot of the day on eight to slide back to -2.
0915: Cabrera surrenders his second shot of the day at five as he leaves a five-footer for par on the high-side. That's the US Open back to -1, but he'll hope to get at least one back at the par-five sixth that yielded three eagles yesterday. McIlroy can't convert his birdie chance and remains -2.
0911: Els fires in a gem at the short eighth and will have eight-ten feet for the second birdie of his round. McIlroy responds in style at the third and a fine short iron leaves a very presentable birdie chance.
0909: McIlroy drops his first shot of the championship at two. He was the only man to come home yesterday without a bogey on his card, some effort that. The youngster is back to -2, let's see how he copes with that minor disappointment.
0906: Another one slips away for Broadhurst at 11, that's back-to-back bogeys and he's now -1.
0903: Anders Hansen is another making full use of the helpful early conditions, the steady Dane has picked up shots at three, four and six to charge up to -2.
0857: Nick Dougherty opens with a double-bogey down the first and is back to +2, while a birdie at two gets Niclas Fasth to +3. Can the in-form Swede fight his way back into contention?
0855: Peter Hanson made a solid start to the championship yesterday with a very respectable 70, but the Swede has endured a nightmare start today and is now +3 for his round through eight holes - that's +2 for the championship.
0852: Furyk immediately gives back a shot at the second and is back to where he started, -1, as he heads for the third tee.
0847: Broadhurst's charge is halted as he takes a bogey-five at ten, he's back to -2 where he finds Cabrera who made a bogey of his own on three. Cabrera's compatriot Romero undoes much of his early progress with a double-bogey at nine, he's now -1. One of yesterday's heroes, teenage amateur Rory McIlroy opens with a par.
0842: Els gets going finally and makes a birdie at the fifth to get to level par.
0837: Donald's promising opening is halted at the third with a double bogey and he is back to level par for the championship. Jim Furyk is -2 overall after a birdie at the first.
0829: Padraig Harrington pars his first hole to stay at -2 as Broadhurst reaches the turn in 33.
0820: Luke Donald also on the move as he makes a birdie on the second to get to -2 overall.
0819: The front nine at Carnoustie looks there for the taking at the moment as Paul Broadhurst joins the cluster of players on three under for the championship as he makes his third birdie of the day at the eighth.
0813: US Open champions Angel Cabrera fired a 68 on Thursday and he starts his second round with a par to stay at three under, alongside in-form compatriot Romero.
0811: No fireworks yet from Els as he pars his first three holes while England's Luke Donald makes a four at the first to remain at one under overall.
0806: Romero surges to three under for the championship as he picks up another shot with a birdie at the par five sixth.
0803: While plenty of those on the course are picking up shots, Aussie Mark Hensby has hit the skids and is +4 for the day through six holes and now in a tie for last place on +12.
0758: Paul Broadhurst is also going along very nicely and a birdie on the sixth gets him to two under for the day and for the championship.
0754: Ernie Els starts with a par.John Daly burnt brightly for a while in the lead on Thursday but has started his second round with a dropped shot.
0736: Romero hoists himself to two under for the day and overall having made three birdies and a bogey in his first four holes.
0725: Players clearly taking advantage of the benign conditions so far with three already under par.
0700: Argentine Andres Romero notches the first birdie of the day at the first and he gets to one under for the championship.
0653: The opening group of the day negotiate the first hole relatively drama-free and all make par. Paul Broadhurst is the best placed placed of the trio after his opening 71.
0630: Welcome to day two of the 136th Open Championship and the action comes thick and fast with some big names out from the off. Leader Sergio Garcia will tee it up at 0931BST while Ernie Els (0725), Luke Donald (0747), teenage star Rory McIlroy (0831) and Phil Mickelson (0909) all get an early look at the Carnoustie course.
