donald's chip on his shoulder

Luke Donald had no doubt what let him down most as he finished the Open Championship down on 13 over par after a closing 78.

"My chipping was miserable, to say the least," said Donald, Britain's highest-ranked player coming into the event and so looking forward to it after a final-day 64 gave him a tie for fourth in the Scottish Open last Sunday.

In eight Opens, the 29-year-old has still to record a top-30 finish and he will draw no comfort from the fact that he has at least made the halfway cut in the last three.

He added: "I felt my short game was not very good at all. I didn't really hit the ball badly, but I just didn't score."
